Muthalik as Ravana: How to really fight the moral police

I am getting endless invites to join the pink chaddi campaign. The pink chaddi campaign is utterly juvenile. It is generating a lot of PR and buzz for some fringe organization which will revel in it (and so will the pink chaddi brigade).
These do-gooders need to get a clue. Spare me these space cadets who lack the courage to carry out their campaign in Kashmir, where the jehadis have warned that those who celebrate Hallmark Card Day (14th February) will be shot.
What would I do? Here's a thought:
Since Ram Sena names itself after Lord Ram, why not use their ideology to defeat them?
Ergo, only asuras like Ravana harassed women. So Muthalik is like Ravana.
I am carrying out a word of mouth campaign to all the folks I know so it hopefully filters down to the most remote part of Karnataka ( and the rest of India).
You can do the same. If you have anymore workable ideas, please feel free to share them.
Pink chaddi is an elitist and silly idea which is limited to Facebook and some blogs.
For high resolution images, please feel free to email me.
Thank you.

Hi, while i am deviating from the topic, I wanted to refresh everyone's mythology. If i remember the epic right, it was not Ravana, but Rama who harrassed Sita. Ravan infact didn't even touch her and awaited her consent until the end. Abduction in anger was his only fault. Rama on the other hand treated his wife with little respect and trust. Not only did he force her into agni pareeksha for no fault of hers, but also ordered Lakshmana to take her to forest deceitfully and kill her.

I agree with your whole story Padmaja but at the end you mentioned that Rama ordered Lakshmana to kill Sita in the forest. I don't believe that is true. He basically abandoned Sita but did not order Lakshmana to kill her.

Padmaja,
The instructions from Rama, at least according to the Valmiki version are to leave Sita reasonably close to some of the hermitages but still in the jungle nonetheless. So for all practical purposes, leaving a woman pregnant with twins in the forest with carnivores presumably nearby is obviously cruel.

But your broader point about Ravana is right. First of all, while the Valmiki version is considered to be seminal version, it is by no means the only version. Many tellings exist, and even in the Valmiki version, it is Ravana who exhibits far greater respect for women than Rama ever does. The Ramayana makes a very specific mention of the fact that Ravana makes no lascivious advances towards Sita in Lanka according her protection for the entire while. It is Rama who repeatedly ill-treats Sita, first suspecting her of impurity post-war and then abandoning her while pregnant purely based on a rumour.

So this viral campaign about Ravana harassing women is quite off the mark and likely to die a quick death. Pink chaddis, on the other hand, elitist they might be, have a certain charm...

Hey Sunil, guess what. I think your Ravana idea doesn't actually stink. It's probably good. But it surely won't go beyond the first tier of your chain mail / blog simply because it is not cooler or fun-er or even more inyourface than pink chaddis. Everyone in India (and elsewhere) regardless of financial status does wear a chaddi. That's your percieved elitism taken care of. And yes please do feel free to use your awesome muthalik as ravana poster in Kashmir. And fight jihadis or whatever. Heh. Keep up the good work...
